Several years ago, the Kingston-based King’s Kids performing arts program had to overcome an obstacle surrounding their annual Christmas show. The result was a valuable experience and life lesson for everyone involved.

Ralphine Childs, the Program Director for King’s Kids and creator at Imagine This TV, knew it was a story worth sharing. Together with a local illustrator she retells the experience in the form of a children’s book so that kids everywhere can be inspired.

Christmas Lemonade” is a fun, full-color children’s story that teaches resilience as it chronicles the journey of that holiday season.

We at FFHV love discovering new local children’s authors so we asked Ralphine a few questions to share with you all!

Q & A with Ralphine Childs, author of “Christmas Lemonade”

First, tell us a little about yourself!
I am a wife and mother of 4 with a passion for the arts. I currently work as the Program Director for the King’s Kids community performing arts program in Kingston, NY. My degree is in Community and Human Services and I have over 30 years of experience in the performing arts and working with children.

What inspired you to write the story?
I have been thinking about writing “Christmas Lemonade” since 2011 when we went through a debacle surrounding our holiday show. For four years I’ve had an inner nudging to write the story. Last fall I was overwhelmed with a desire to go ahead and write it and I did.

Christmas LemonadeShould we keep an eye out for more books from you in the future?
I definitely have more books in me. My next project will probably be a somewhat anticipated cook book, as I have a new creative channel on Youtube: ImagineThisTV.

Just for fun, name one of your family’s favorite things to do together in the Hudson Valley.
One of my family’s favorite things to do in the Hudson Valley is to dine at the specialty eateries dotted throughout the area.

“Christmas Lemonade” is available on Amazon for $10.
